Introducing Fox Hunt: The New Multiplayer Experience Replacing Metal Gear Online

MGS Delta Multiplayer Mode Fox Hunt Looks to Replace Metal Gear Online

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater (MGS Delta) will feature Fox Hunt, a fresh multiplayer mode replacing the original Metal Gear Online. During Konami's recent PRESS START livestream on June 12, Fox Hunt Director Yu Sahara shared development insights about this new approach to multiplayer.

Sahara described Fox Hunt as a "completely original online multiplayer mode" that exists within the same universe as MGS Delta while delivering distinct gameplay. This new offering replaces Metal Gear Online, which originally launched with MGS3: Subsistence on PlayStation 2.

"We deeply appreciate the dedicated Metal Gear Online community," Sahara explained. "However, multiplayer gaming has evolved significantly since MGO's heyday." The development team focused on elevating camouflage and stealth mechanics to create their innovative multiplayer concept.

"We aimed to create something truly unique rather than just another shooting game. By emphasizing the tension between hiding and hunting, we've crafted an online experience that could only exist in the Metal Gear universe," he elaborated.

Previous Metal Gear Online iterations featured conventional competitive modes across MGS3: Subsistence, MGS4: Guns of the Patriots, and MGS5: Phantom Pain. Sahara confirmed that additional details about the new multiplayer mode will be revealed in the coming days.

Snake vs. Bomberman Confirmed as Xbox Exclusive

Back in February, Konami announced that PlayStation 5 and Steam versions would exclusively feature the returning "Snake vs. Monkey" mode. Simultaneously, they hinted at a similar mode coming to Xbox with a different character, later confirmed to be Bomberman.

The recent Xbox gameplay trailer officially revealed "Snake vs. Bomberman" as the platform's exclusive mode. The trailer description states: "Take control of Snake and face off against Bomberman in this special side mode. Blast through each stage!"

Konami remains committed to delivering a faithful remake of this critically acclaimed title while introducing new content and modernized systems to appeal to contemporary audiences. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater launches August 28 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For ongoing updates about the game, explore our related coverage below.
