Monster Hunter Wilds Bids Farewell to Gender-Locked Armor Sets
Fashion Hunting: The Ultimate Endgame

For years, Monster Hunter players have dreamed of a world free from gender restrictions on armor. That dream is now a reality! During the Monster Hunter Wilds Developer Stream at Gamescom, Capcom announced a highly anticipated change: armor sets will be universally accessible, regardless of character gender.
"In previous Monster Hunter games, male and female armor was separate," a Capcom developer explained while showcasing starting armors. "I'm happy to confirm that in Monster Hunter Wilds, that's no longer the case. All characters can wear any gear."
The Monster Hunter community erupted with excitement, especially among the dedicated "fashion hunters" who prioritize aesthetics alongside, or even above, raw stats. The previous limitations meant missing out on desired armor pieces simply due to their gender designation.
Imagine wanting to sport the Rathian skirt as a male hunter, or the imposing Daimyo Hermitaur set as a female hunter, only to find these options were locked behind gender barriers. This was a frustrating limitation, particularly given the often bulky designs of male armor and the more revealing styles of female armor, which didn't appeal to all players.

The issue extended beyond simple aesthetics. In Monster Hunter: World, for example, a voucher system existed for gender changes, with only the first voucher being free. Subsequent changes required a paid purchase. This meant players who wanted a specific armor set's look but were initially assigned a different gender had to pay real money to achieve their desired aesthetic, short of starting a new save file.
While not officially confirmed, it's highly likely that Wilds will retain the "layered armor" system from previous games. This allows players to mix and match appearances without sacrificing stats, opening up a wealth of customization options. Combined with the removal of gendered armor sets, this promises unprecedented levels of player expression.

The Gamescom stream revealed more than just the gender-neutral armor. Two new monsters were introduced: Lala Barina and Rey Dau. For more details on Monster Hunter Wilds' new features and monsters, check out the article below!
