Zelda Movie Release Date Revealed by Nintendo

Nov 01,2025 Author: David

Nintendo has confirmed that its live-action The Legend of Zelda movie will premiere on March 26, 2027.

The announcement appeared in the recently launched Nintendo Today! app, which debuted during the Nintendo Direct showcase in March 2025. No other movie details have been disclosed at this time.

During the presentation, renowned game creator Shigeru Miyamoto unveiled the app as a late-stage surprise. This all-in-one mobile platform delivers numerous benefits for dedicated Nintendo enthusiasts.

Acting as a hub for everything Nintendo, the app provides a daily calendar and news updates to share developments directly with players as they happen. Miyamoto gave the example that following the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct next week, fans can log in to access all announcements, with additional information being released "daily" from that point.

But the major news has already started rolling out. Confirming the Zelda movie release date is certain to drive many fans to download the app in hopes of similar landmark updates going forward. It's notable that the Zelda movie news first appeared in Nintendo’s news app, ahead of even the company's official social media channels.

Nintendo and Sony Pictures initially revealed plans for a live-action The Legend of Zelda movie back in November 2023. Wes Ball, known for directing The Maze Runner and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is set to helm the project, with Avi Arad and Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto producing.

Little is known about the film itself, however. Ball has expressed his vision for the movie to feel like "live-action Miyazaki," referring to the celebrated filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki, founder of Studio Ghibli and creator of anime classics such as My Neighbor Totoro, Howl's Moving Castle, and Spirited Away. Ball also emphasized his intention for the Zelda adaptation to be a "serious" and immersive film, and has indicated that he plans to use very little motion capture to maintain a grounded tone.

Should Link have a speaking role in the new live-action Zelda movie?
