Capcom Unveils Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gameplay and Star
Capcom has treated fans to a fresh look at its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The new gameplay trailer, showcased during the PlayStation State of Play event, not only highlights the game's impressive sword-based combat and formidable enemies but also reveals the identity of its protagonist: the legendary swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi.
The trailer offers a glimpse into Musashi's exceptional swordsmanship and his surprisingly playful, comedic personality. Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the renowned Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune, famous for his portrayal of Musashi in various samurai films.
The game's setting is a demon-infested Kyoto, overrun by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning hellish creatures into Japan. This marks the first new Onimusha game in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
