Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 were initially scheduled to commence globally on April 9, but due to economic turbulence stemming from Trump's tariffs, Nintendo had to postpone the pre-order start dates in the U.S. and Canada. Meanwhile, pre-orders proceeded as planned in other regions, including the UK.
According to an FAQ on Nintendo's website, the first batch of invitation emails for pre-orders will be sent starting May 8, 2025, exclusively through the My Nintendo Store. Details about retail pre-orders have yet to be disclosed.
Nintendo has confirmed that additional batches of invitation emails will be dispatched "periodically" until the My Nintendo Store opens pre-orders to the general public.

There has been no official word from Nintendo on whether they will maintain their previously announced pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2, its games, and accessories, or if they will increase them. Concerns have been raised by some analysts that the ongoing tariff war might force Nintendo to raise the price of the base Nintendo Switch 2 above $449.99, though no final decision has been announced.
Notably, Nintendo is offering a limited-time bundle that includes Mario Kart World with the Nintendo Switch 2 for $499.99, effectively reducing the game's cost by $30.
IGN has covered reactions to Nintendo's decision to set the price of the Switch 2 games at $80, including insights from analysts who explain the reasoning behind this move.
Additionally, former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the pricing of the Switch 2's tutorial game, Welcome Tour, drawing parallels to the Wii's pack-in game, Wii Sports.
