Warframe's TennoCon 2024: A Blast from the Past with Warframe: 1999

TennoCon 2024 delivered a knockout punch with the announcement of Warframe: 1999, a massive update promising a retro-futuristic adventure. This year's event showcased a captivating blend of nostalgia and cutting-edge gameplay.

The journey begins with a prologue quest, "The Lotus Eaters," launching in August 2024. Reuniting players with a beloved character, this quest sets the stage for the main event, introducing the world of 1999 and the new Warframe, Sevatgoth Prime, and its exclusive weaponry. Completing "The Lotus Eaters" is a prerequisite for experiencing Warframe: 1999, slated for release in Winter 2024.

Warframe: 1999 plunges players into an alternate 1999, where a deadly Y2K virus threatens global annihilation. The setting is Höllvania, a vibrant 90s city corrupted by Techrot. Players will navigate this retro-futuristic landscape using the new Atomicyles, versatile vehicles capable of bullet jumps, drifts, and even explosive maneuvers. Leading the charge is the Hex, a team of six heroes, each wielding a Protoframe – a Warframe showcasing the human form beneath.

The Hex boasts a star-studded cast, featuring voice talents like Alpha Takahashi, Ben Starr, Melissa Medina, and Amelia Tyler. Interaction with the team takes a distinctly 1999 approach – instant messaging – adding a unique social layer to the gameplay.

Adding to the 90s vibe, players will face off against On-lyne, a Technocyte-infected boy band led by Zeke (voiced by Nick Apostolides). Their infectiously catchy music will be available on major streaming platforms.

A significant upgrade to the fashion system is also included. Players can now equip two fashion frame loadouts, switching between them seamlessly. The introduction of Gemini Skins allows players to bring the Protoframes, like Arthur and Aoi, into the Origin System, complete with fully voiced lines for combat and idle interactions.

Anime Arthur and Aoi

Beyond the core gameplay, Digital Extremes is collaborating with THE LINE to produce an anime short based on Warframe: 1999, launching later this year. High-fidelity Heirloom skins for Ember (available now) and Rhino (early 2025) round out the exciting additions.

With Warframe: 1999's Winter 2024 release date approaching, now is the perfect time to jump into the action. Download Warframe from the App Store today!
