In Avowed, upgrading your weaponry is crucial for survival. Early game encounters feature Common (Level I) weapons and enemies, but the difficulty quickly escalates to Level II, demanding Fine (Tier II) equipment. This guide details how to acquire and upgrade to Tier II/Fine weapons and armor.
Upgrading Weapons and Armor:
Many weapons and armor pieces can be found or purchased as Fine Quality. However, others require upgrading. Avowed uses a two-part system to gauge gear effectiveness: Quality (indicated by a descriptor, color, and Roman numeral) and upgrade levels (+1 to +3). Common (I) gear is green, while Fine (II) gear is blue.
To upgrade from Common (I) to Fine (II), utilize the workbenches located at Party Camps. Each +1 to +3 upgrade requires specific materials depending on the gear type. After reaching +3, you can upgrade to Fine (II) using Adra, a rare crystal obtained through quests, merchant purchases, or dismantling Unique items.
Locating and Purchasing Fine (II) Gear:

While upgrading is effective, it's resource-intensive. Alternatively, Fine (II) weapons and armor occasionally spawn in Dawnshore early in the game, and can be looted from Level II enemies, particularly Bounties. However, Common gear is significantly less effective against Level II foes, so adequate health potions are essential.
Paradis, accessible after defeating the Dreamscourge bear boss in Dawnshore, offers Fine (II) gear from merchants. Twin sisters operate adjacent stalls near the Bounty Board: Merlylin sells magical items (grimoires, wands), while her blacksmith sister provides standard weapons and armor (pictured above).
This comprehensive guide ensures you're well-equipped to conquer Avowed's challenges.
