Deltarune Update: Chapter 4 Nears Completion, but Release Remains Distant

Undertale creator Toby Fox recently shared a development update for Deltarune in his latest newsletter. While Chapter 4 is nearing completion, the simultaneous release of Chapters 3 and 4 on PC, Switch, and PS4 remains some time away.

Fox confirmed that Chapter 4 is largely playable, with all maps finished and battles functional. However, polishing remains, including minor cutscene improvements, battle balancing, visual enhancements, background additions, and refining ending sequences for several battles. Despite this, three testers have given positive feedback after completing the chapter.

The multi-platform and multilingual release presents significant challenges, especially considering this is the first major paid release since Undertale. Fox emphasizes the need for a polished product, hence the extended development time. The team's current priorities include testing new features, finalizing PC and console versions, Japanese localization, and rigorous bug testing.

Chapter 3 development is complete (as per Fox's February newsletter), and preliminary work on Chapter 5 has already begun, including map creation and bullet pattern design.
While a specific release date is absent, the newsletter offered glimpses of upcoming content: Ralsei and Rouxls dialogue, an Elnina character description, and a new item, GingerGuard. Although the three-year wait since Chapter 2 has caused some initial disappointment, the anticipation for Chapters 3 and 4, confirmed to be longer than Chapters 1 and 2 combined, remains high.
Fox expresses confidence that future chapter releases will be more streamlined once Chapters 3 and 4 launch.
