With the success of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, anticipation is building around which Bethesda game might be next in line for a remaster. Rumors suggest that Fallout 3 could be the next title to receive this treatment, especially following a leak in 2023. Bruce Nesmith, a designer on the original Fallout 3, has expressed his views on potential improvements for a remastered version, particularly focusing on the game's gun combat.
In an interview with VideoGamer, Nesmith highlighted that *Fallout 3 Remastered* would likely see significant enhancements in its shooting mechanics, bringing them more in line with those seen in *Fallout 4*. He noted that *Fallout 3* was Bethesda's first foray into a shooter-style game, and while the initial effort was commendable, the gun combat in *Fallout 4* showed substantial improvements.
Oblivion Remastered, crafted by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, sets a high bar for what fans can expect from future Bethesda remasters. It boasts 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, alongside a slew of other improvements including revamped leveling systems, character creation, combat animations, and in-game menus. New dialogue, a refined third-person view, and advanced lip sync technology have also been added, leading some fans to consider it more of a remake than a remaster. Bethesda has clarified their choice of labeling it as a remaster.
Nesmith anticipates that *Fallout 3 Remastered* would follow a similar path of enhancement, particularly in its combat system, which he felt did not compare well to other shooters at the time of its release. He emphasized the improvements made in *Fallout 4* and expects these to be incorporated into a remastered version of *Fallout 3*.
He further praised Oblivion Remastered, stating that it has been updated to surpass even the latest graphical updates in Skyrim, suggesting that it could be seen as "Oblivion 2.0."
Amidst these remaster projects, Bethesda remains busy with The Elder Scrolls VI, potential expansions for Starfield, ongoing work on Fallout 76, and the Fallout TV show, which is set to explore New Vegas in its second season. This flurry of activity promises exciting developments for fans in the coming years.
