Path of Exile 2: How To Find More Citadels

Path of Exile 2: Unlocking the Secrets of Citadels

After conquering the main campaign and completing Acts 1-3 on Cruel difficulty, players unlock the Endgame and the Atlas of Worlds. Navigating this Atlas presents unique challenges, including Citadels – elusive endgame objectives. Unlike readily visible structures like Lost Towers, Realmgates, and Burning Monoliths, Citadels require a bit more searching. However, the 0.1.1 update significantly improves their visibility.

Citadel Purpose in PoE 2

Citadels are unique map nodes, appearing as Iron, Copper, or Stone variants. Each houses a significantly powered-up campaign boss:

  • Iron Citadel: Count Geonor (Act 1 boss). Identified by its large city appearance with black walls.
  • Copper Citadel: Jamanra, The Abomination (Act 2 boss). Appears as a large encampment surrounding the map node.
  • Stone Citadel: Doryani (Act 3 boss). Resembles a stone pyramid, similar to Act 3 ziggurats.

Defeating these bosses yields Crisis Fragments, essential keys for accessing the Burning Monolith and its pinnacle boss, the Arbiter of Ash, completing the "Pinnacle of Flame" quest. Citadels are challenging, one-attempt-only maps requiring a minimum Tier 15 Waystone for access. Rewards include exceptional loot.

Strategies for Locating Citadels

The 0.1.1 update enhances Citadel visibility with prominent beacons visible even through the Fog of War. However, if beacons remain elusive:

  1. Strategic Pathing: Traverse the Atlas map in straight lines to maximize Fog of War clearing. This reveals the most map area efficiently.
  2. Lost Tower Exploration: Lost Towers, upon completion, reveal a substantial area around them, potentially uncovering nearby Citadels.
  3. Biome Targeting: Citadel types tend to favor specific biomes:
    • Iron Citadels: Grass or Forest biomes
    • Copper Citadels: Desert biomes
    • Stone Citadels: Coastal areas of any biome
  4. Directional Search: Citadels rarely cluster. After finding one, explore in a drastically different direction to maximize your chances of finding another.

With the 0.1.1 update's improved visibility, Citadels should be readily apparent within a few map screens of your explored areas. If not, employ the strategic pathing and biome-focused search methods described above. The beacons will guide you to your next challenge.
