Wolcen Studio has announced Project Pantheon, a free-to-play action RPG incorporating extraction shooter mechanics. A closed alpha test begins January 25th in Europe, expanding to North America on February 1st.
Game director Andrei Cirkulete describes the game as a blend of "the tension and risk-reward of an extraction shooter with the battle dynamics of a combat RPG," hinting at influences from titles like Diablo and Escape from Tarkov. Player feedback is highly valued by the developers.
Players assume the role of a Death messenger, battling AI and other players across diverse maps. Successful evacuations preserve hard-earned trophies; failure results in complete loot loss.
Customization is key, with base building, equipment personalization, and diverse playstyles encouraged. The game world draws inspiration from global mythologies, with player trading forming the core of its economy.
The initial alpha will focus on "Destiny's Edge," a region inspired by Scandinavian folklore. Despite being in early alpha, Wolcen Studio plans to actively collaborate with the community to shape the game's development.
