While it's become almost a cliché to label Japanese creations as "weird," Kodansha Creators' Lab's upcoming indie game, Mochi-O, might just compel me to use that term in the most endearing way. This innovative release from the mega manga publisher's new indie games label is anything but ordinary.
So, what's Mochi-O all about? It's a rail shooter where you're tasked with saving the world by blasting apart evil robots. Sounds standard enough, right? Well, not quite. The twist here is that your weapon of choice is none other than an adorable hamster named Mochi-O, equipped with an array of heavy armaments from rifles to rocket launchers. Imagine that!
But Mochi-O isn't just about shooting. It also incorporates virtual pet elements, allowing you to nurture Mochi-O by feeding it seeds, which in turn strengthens your bond and unlocks new weapons. There's even a roguelike twist with random upgrades sprinkled throughout your battles, adding a layer of unpredictability and excitement to the gameplay.
**Creative**
Developed by the solo creator Zxima, Mochi-O boasts that charming, rough-around-the-edges vibe typical of indie games. Kodansha Creators' Lab, an extension of the renowned manga publisher, is doing a fantastic job of spotlighting indie developers like Zxima, giving them the visibility they deserve.
With its quirky tone and retro rail shooter mechanics, it's no wonder you're curious about Mochi-O. Keep an eye out for it, as it's set to launch on iOS and Android later this year!
