Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Surpasses 200,000 Units Sold, Proving a Resurgence for the Classic Action Title
Released late last year, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP has exceeded expectations, recently surpassing 200,000 units sold. Despite initial technical hiccups and controversy surrounding censorship, the game's sales figures demonstrate significant player demand. This success story highlights the enduring appeal of the original action title.
Developed by Dragami Games (though originally created by Grasshopper Manufacture, known for No More Heroes), Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP offers a revitalized experience. The remaster boasts enhanced visuals and quality-of-life improvements, appealing to both longtime fans and new players. The game's hack-and-slash gameplay, featuring cheerleader Juliet Starling battling zombies with a chainsaw, remains a unique and engaging experience reminiscent of titles like Bayonetta.
This sales milestone, announced via a tweet from Dragami Games, encompasses sales across all current and last-gen consoles, as well as PC. The achievement is particularly noteworthy several months after the September 2024 launch.
The original Lollipop Chainsaw, released in 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, achieved even greater success, selling over one million units. Its popularity stemmed partly from the collaboration between Goichi Suda (a renowned game designer) and James Gunn (director of Guardians of the Galaxy), who contributed to the game's narrative.
While future plans for Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, such as DLC or a sequel, remain unannounced, the game's strong sales suggest a positive outlook for remasters of cult classic titles. This success follows the recent release of another Grasshopper Manufacture title, Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, further indicating a renewed interest in bringing beloved but less mainstream games to modern platforms.
