Hazelight Games has announced that their latest cooperative adventure, Split Fiction, is off to a phenomenal start, having sold 2 million copies within just one week of its release. Launched on March 6 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, the game has quickly established itself as another triumph for the studio. Hazelight expressed their gratitude on social media, stating they are "blown away" by the overwhelming support from both new and returning fans.
The studio previously shared that Split Fiction hit a milestone of 1 million copies sold just 48 hours after its debut, showcasing the immense popularity of Mio and Zoe's sci-fi narrative. This means an additional million copies were sold in the five days following the initial surge.
Given that Split Fiction is designed as a co-op experience, the actual number of players enjoying the game likely exceeds the number of units sold. The game's innovative Friend's Pass feature further enhances its reach, allowing one player to buy the game and invite a friend to play for free. As the game continues to generate buzz on social media, the sales figure of 2 million is expected to grow even further.
Hazelight's previous release, the 2021 Game of the Year winner It Takes Two, also saw impressive sales figures. It sold approximately 1 million copies shortly after its launch in March 2021, eventually reaching 10 million copies by February 2023 and soaring to 20 million by October 2024.
In IGN's review of Split Fiction, the game was praised as “an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another,” highlighting its dynamic and engaging gameplay experience.
