The team at MercurySteam, comprised of alumni from Rebel Act Studios, brings a rich heritage to their latest project. Known for developing the cult classic Severance: Blade of Darkness released in 2001, Rebel Act Studios left a lasting impact with its innovative combat system that allowed players to sever enemies' limbs, infusing the game with a heightened sense of brutality and realism. This groundbreaking approach has significantly influenced MercurySteam's new endeavor, serving as a foundational inspiration for their creative vision.
While rooted in this legacy, MercurySteam also embraced the evolution of the action-adventure genre by drawing inspiration from contemporary titles such as the God of War reboot by Santa Monica Studio. They admired its cinematic combat and intricately designed world, aspiring to weave together fast-paced action with deep RPG elements to craft an immersive and captivating gaming experience.
A standout feature in Blades of Fire is its unique weapon crafting system. Players will have the opportunity to forge their own blades, meticulously adjusting attributes like length, weight, durability, and balance. This system empowers players to customize their weapons according to their individual combat preferences, enhancing the personal touch to gameplay.
The narrative of Blades of Fire centers around the warrior Aran de Lira, who embarks on a perilous quest against a cunning queen with the power to transform metal into stone. Throughout his journey, Aran will confront 50 distinct enemy types, each demanding a tailored strategy for defeat.
Blades of Fire is set to launch on May 22, 2025, and will be available on PC (via the Epic Games Store), Xbox Series, and PS5, promising an exciting addition to the action-adventure genre.
