Paradox Interactive has revealed the first look at the upcoming *Crusader Kings 3* expansion centered around nomadic rulers. This new DLC introduces a distinct governance system tailored specifically for nomadic cultures, offering a fresh and immersive gameplay experience. A key addition to this system is the introduction of a new resource called "herd," which serves as a measure of the ruler's authority and influence.
The "herd" mechanic will play a central role in various aspects of gameplay. It will affect military strength, cavalry composition, relations between lords and their subjects, and other core gameplay systems, making it an essential factor in managing a nomadic realm. As with any great power, maintaining mobility is crucial—and in this expansion, rulers will need to relocate frequently, influenced by environmental conditions, political pressures, or opportunities for conquest.
Nomadic leaders may choose to negotiate with local populations or drive them from their lands through force, depending on their strategy and ambitions. Additionally, rulers will gain access to portable yurts—specialized dwellings that function similarly to adventurer camps. These yurts can be upgraded with new components that provide unique bonuses, enhancing both personal and political power.
One of the most exciting additions is the introduction of iconic yurt towns—mobile settlements that travel with the ruler. Much like adventurer camps, these settlements can be expanded with new structures, each serving different strategic and economic purposes. This feature adds a layer of depth to how players manage resources, build influence, and maintain control over their ever-moving domain.
