Rebel Wolves studio developers have unveiled fresh insights about their highly anticipated vampire-themed RPG, highlighting the protagonist's "duality" as one of the game's central mechanics.
Game Director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz revealed their ambition to craft a character echoing the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde archetype. While this literary concept has been widely recognized in books and films, it remains largely untapped in video games. The team predicts this fresh take will introduce surreal elements that players haven't experienced before.
Tomaszkiewicz explained they're particularly curious how players will respond to controlling a protagonist who intermittently loses supernatural abilities, creating dramatic shifts between human and vampire states. However, implementing such unconventional mechanics requires thoughtful execution - certain established RPG conventions might disorient players if altered too drastically.
The veteran developer noted RPG creators constantly grapple with balancing innovation against tradition. Determining which mechanics to reinvent versus preserving familiar systems presents ongoing challenges, especially considering the RPG community's preference for certain gameplay traditions.
Citing Kingdom Come: Deliverance as an example, Tomaszkiewicz referenced how its alcohol-based save system polarized player opinions, demonstrating how gameplay innovations can sharply divide audiences.
The studio plans to debut actual gameplay footage during summer 2025.
